Community guidelines

Parents write the ratings and the notes on this site. We publish them as written. These six rules are the whole of what we ask, and they are the whole of what we remove for. They are published before the first incident, not after it.

1. Write about what is on screen #

Describe what the film shows and what your family noticed. Don’t make accusations about real people — cast, crew, other parents here, or anyone in your life.

A film can be judged in these pages; a person cannot.

2. No children #

No names, schools, birthdays, diagnoses or photos of any child, including your own. “My nine-year-old hid behind the sofa” is fine. Anything that could identify a child is not, and comes down without a debate.

3. Any standard is welcome. Some conduct is not. #

This site exists for families whose standards are not the mainstream ones, and every sincere account of what a parent found objectionable and why is welcome here — religiously grounded objections included. What is not welcome is conduct, whatever the standard behind it:

We moderate conduct and targets, never conclusions. “This film normalises something I object to” stays. “People who are X are Y” goes. That is a promise about our method, not about outcomes, and the appeal route at the end of this page is how you hold us to it.

4. In your own words #

Don’t paste text from another site’s parent guide, review or summary. It is the one thing that could get this site taken down, and it is also beside the point: what your family noticed is the thing nobody else can write. A note that repeats several words in a row of another household’s note is refused when it is written, not after.

5. Say if you have a connection #

If you worked on a film, or were paid or asked to rate it, say so in the note or don’t rate it. Staff and invited contributors carry a visible badge. There are no studio placements here and there never will be; a rating from someone with an undisclosed connection to the film comes down.

6. Appeals #

If something of yours was removed, or something about you was not, write to corrections@parentfilter.app with the film and the words in question. A person reads it. What we removed, by reason and by month, is published at /moderation, so a decision about one note can be checked against every other.

What these rules are not #

They are not a rating of any film, a recommendation, or a claim that a film is suitable for anyone. They are not a promise to read everything, or to act within any particular time; they are the rules we apply when we do act, the same way each time. Our own numbers on a film page are marked as ours; a parent’s words are marked as a parent’s, and we never rewrite them.
